Fred Nordby passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, Aug. 2, 2016. He was born Jan. 12, 1942, to Arwin and LoRene (Hodson) Nordby in Moscow.
A lifelong Moscow resident, Fred was best known for his ability to fix any car, no matter what the problem was. He worked with his father at Nordby's Auto Sales and Service on Third Street for many years. During that time, he drove a mail truck to Pasco and back every night after working all day at the service station. After he retired from the auto service business, he enjoyed helping local farmers during the summer months.
People who knew Fred understood he lived life on his own terms. It was nearly impossible to change his mind once it was set on something. An adventurous streak led him to try skydiving once. He ended up with a broken leg. He liked boats, the river and Lewiston. Above all, Fred loved cars and trucks and loved to drive them. His favorite activity in later years was driving a daily route to see what was going on, and stop to visit with people he knew along the way.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Diann Nordby Haslett. He is survived by an aunt and uncle in Lyons, Ore., and numerous cousins on both the Nordby and Hodson sides of the family. He also leaves several close friends who were there for him as life became more difficult in recent years.
His family and friends are sincerely grateful for the care and attention he received from the dedicated staff at Kindred Aspen Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center the last few months of his life.
As per Fred's wishes, cremation has taken place and no service is planned.
