Katherine (Lutes) Schnoor passed away Tuesday afternoon, March, 19, 2013, from complications of liver cancer. She passed peacefully in her home surrounded by family and friends. She was 86.
Kay, as she liked to be called, was born in 1926 in Sandpoint, Idaho, to Catherine and Clark Lutes. The family lived in the Sandpoint-Kootenai area for 10 years and then moved to a small farm outside of Lapwai.
Kay was one of 12 children, so she grew up knowing the values of family. She graduated from Lapwai High School in 1945. Kay was an active member of the Jehovah's Witnesses congregation for 48 years and wishes to be remembered as such.
She is survived by a daughter, Jacque Haggard of Seattle; two sons, Mark Armstrong of Lewiston and Robert Cook of Seattle; two sisters, Jeannette Simonini of Brentwood, Calif., and LaVerne Haines of Lewiston; and a brother, Jim Lutes of Lewiston. She is also survived by two grandsons, Aaron and Ben Armstrong, and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Schnoor; a daughter, Alyce (Haggard) Hancock; as well as five brothers, Burton, Ray, George, Charlie and Harry Lutes; and three sisters, Alice Poston, Berna Clark and June Elliot.
Her family and friends will remember her mostly for her warm smile and big heart. There was always room at her table for an extra plate. She spent countless hours in service, witnessing for Jehovah. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and crochet work. There are many families in the area that enjoy a handmade quilt, blanket and baby clothes that she so enjoyed making.
There will be a visitation for family and friends at the chapel at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens in the Lewiston Orchards. A time for reflection will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the gardens. There will be a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Lewiston. The public is welcome to participate in the service. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the gardens, followed by a covered-dish dinner from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Orchid Room in Morgans' Alley, 301 Main St., Lewiston.
Everyone is welcome to attend any of these events to help the family in a celebration of her life.
