Kathryn Anne Watson, 66, of San Diego, and formerly of Pullman, died Friday, July 17, 2015, at home with her daughter, Lisa Marie Watson, by her side.

She was born to the late Nila Benshoof and the late Richard Benshoof on July 1, 1949, in Pullman. Kathryn graduated from Pullman High School and went on to attend classes at Washington State University.

Kathryn Ann Benshoof married her late husband, Steven R. Watson, in 1967 and they began their university education together two weeks after their marriage. Kathryn was a music major and education minor. Kathy was a concert pianist and is an alum of the class of 1974.

From 1977 to 1978, Steven and Kathryn and their two children, Lisa Marie Watson and the late Eric Steven Watson, lived in Ghana, West Africa. Steven worked as a Fulbright professor at the University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana. Kathy was hired by an international school called the Ridge School to teach third, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades.

Upon returning to Pullman from Africa, Kathryn and Steven helped build a new church for the Community of Christ. Steve became pastor in 1980 and was pastor for 10 years. Kathryn was the music director for the church and active in directing musicals. She also helped develop a pie booth for the church that was a huge hit at the Palouse fair every year and sold her famous pies to local restaurants. Kathryn was known for her huge heart, generous spirit and feisty, fun personality.

Kathryn is survived by her daughter, Lisa Marie Watson, 46, of San Diego. She is also survived by three beautiful grandchildren, Owen Steven, Olivia Rose and Charlie Steven Watson of Denver.

Kathryn fought a long battle with metastatic cancer but never lost her joyful, loving and generous spirit and she lived every day with amazing strength and grace.
