MISSOULA, Mont. Norman E. Allison, 73, a retired U.S. Forest Service civil engineer and former Orofino resident, died of cancer Saturday at St. Patrick Hospital at Missoula. His home was at Victor, Mont.

Allison designed many of the roads on the Clearwater, Lewis and Clark, Salmon and Idaho Panhandle national forests while working for the Forest Service.

He was born Jan. 31, 1920, at Kanwaka, Kan., to William N. and Mabel Allison. He graduated from high school at Lawrence, Kan., and then from the University of Montana at Missoula.

During World War II he served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the Alcan Highway and in Europe.

He and Olga Heinle were married Jan. 4, 1947, at Missoula. They lived at Missoula; Orofino; Helena, Mont.; Salmon, Idaho; and Sandpoint prior to retiring and moving to the Bitterroot Valley in Montana.

She preceded him in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Kristy A. Allison of Lafayette, Colo., and Cindy C. Lindskog of Bozeman, Mont.; three brothers, Morgan Allison of Lawrence, Kan., Dale Allison of Taos, N.M., and Larry Allison of Kansas City, Mo., and two grandchildren.

A sister, Virginia Ayres, died previously.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dowling Funeral Home at Hamilton, Mont., with Pastor Roger Lamberson officiating. Burial will follow at the Corvallis Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action, P.O. Box 1730, Washington, D.C. 20013.
