Rose Mary Hatke, 76, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024, in Lewiston.
Rose was born on April 10, 1947, in Cottonwood, the daughter of Louis and Anna Hilbert Hatke.
Louis Hatke was born on the Hatke homestead west of Keuterville in 1896. His family moved to Idaho about 1886 from Teutopolis, Ill., and had filed on a homestead.
Anna Hilbert was born in Willowdale, Kansas in 1910. Her family had immigrated to the United States from Luxembourg, Germany in 1890 and settled in St. Donatus, Iowa. The Hilbert family came west to Idaho via Kansas and Texas and settled in Keuterville.
Louis Hatke and Anna Hilbert were married on April 18, 1944, and ranched on the breaks of the Salmon River until they retired to Cottonwood. Upon their deaths, they were buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Keuterville.
Rose Mary, their only child, attended public school in Cottonwood and graduated from high school there.
Rose became an assistant librarian at the Lewiston City Library where she was awarded a plaque for 35 years of outstanding service.
Upon ill health Rose moved to Sycamore Glenn Assisted Living in Clarkston and was there until she died of respiratory failure.
Rose was an avid fan of Gonzaga basketball and the Seattle Mariners and enjoyed talking about sports.
She was cremated and her ashes will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery in Keuterville near her parents.
