Wallace (Wally) Frederick Steiner, age 95, of New Meadows, and formerly of Caldwell and Adrian, Ore., passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010, at home. A viewing for family and friends will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel in Payette, Idaho. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel. Interment will follow at Hilltop Cemetery in Nyssa, Ore. A coffee hour will follow. All family and friends are welcome. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel. Wally was born Jan. 26, 1915, at the family homestead on the Rosebud Indian Reservation, S.D., to John Jacob Steiner and Hilda Helen Branek Steiner. He joined a brother, Richard, age 2. Wally attended school through the eighth grade when he had to quit to help support his family. Wally became an excellent mechanic and joined the U.S. Army on April 15, 1942. He fought in World War II, and was stationed in England and France. He was honorably discharged from the Army Nov. 29, 1945.
He then went home to the family homestead one mile southeast of Adrian, where he helped his parents farm and started his mechanic business, Steiner's Garage.
Wally married LuCille Irene Doty on Sept. 1, 1946, in the United Methodist Church in Winnemucca, Nev. Wally and LuCille made their home in Adrian, where Wally continued to farm and run Steiner's Garage. They had three children, Bonnie in 1947, Jack in 1949 and Judy May in 1950.
Wally semi-retired in 1977 when they relocated to Caldwell. Wally lived in Caldwell until February 2007, when he went to live with his son and daughter-in-law in New Meadows.
Wally was preceded in death by his wife, LuCille Steiner; his father, John Steiner; his mother, Hilda Branek Steiner; three brothers, Richard (Dick), Charles (Chuck), and Harold (Buddy); one sister, Doris Liggett; two sons-in-law, Ralph Leavitt and Robert J. White; two sisters-in-law, Florence Steiner and Mildred Steiner; and brother-in-law, Tom Case.
He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Steiner-Leavitt, of Nyssa; his son, Jack Steiner and wife Judy of New Meadows; his daughter Judy May Steiner-White of Kendrick; his grandson, Richard Leavitt and wife Susan, and great-grandchildren Mesa and Shiloh, all of Blue Grass, Iowa; his granddaughter, Mechelle Leavitt, and his great-grandson Junior Cervantes, both of Nampa; his great-granddaughter, Tequisha Evans and husband David, and great-great-granddaughter Brynlee, all of Nampa; his great-granddaughter, Nelle Cuellar and Camillo Cervantes, and great-great-granddaughter Aurelia, all of Nampa; his granddaughter, Christina White Kochsmeier, and husband Bobby, his great-grandson, Kasey, and great-granddaughter, Madisyn, all of Kendrick; his granddaughter, Doty Leavitt, and great-granddaughter, Shi-Anna, both of Nyssa; his grandson, Andrew Leavitt, and wife Kathy, great-grandson Keegan, and great-granddaughter, Isabella, all of Meridian, Idaho; his grandson, Randy Leavitt, and wife Lori, great-grandsons Troy, Cody, and Caleb, great-granddaughters Kami and Makayla, all of Ontario, Ore.; his grandson, Brad Steiner, and wife Patty, great-granddaughters Jessica and Jacklyn, and great-grandson, Bradley, all of New Meadows; his grandson, Jeffrey Steiner, and wife Sue, his great-grandson, Josh Benton, and Marina Wilson, and great-great-grandson, Bryson, of Donnelly, Idaho; his sister, Lily Case, of Wilder, Idaho; his sister-in-law, Jean Steiner, of Nampa; his sister-in-law, Winnifred (Winnie) Kygar, and husband John (Skeet) of Adrain; and numerous nieces and nephews.
