Missed the Edge

The following items did not appear in The Edge this month. This was because Edge editor Susan Engle chose not to print them, or because I forgot to send them in.

David Letterman won't leave Sarah Palin alone. He continues to make her or her family the brunt of jokes on a daily basis. Palin insists that this doesn't bother her. To prove that she has no animosity toward Letterman, she has invited him to Alaska for a hunting trip.

John Edwards sounded a little like William Shakespeare when he commented on his wife's new book, "Resilience."

He said: "Hell hath no fury like a woman's love to journalism turned."

While having an extramarital affair, former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer was referred to as client No. 9. South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is now being referred to as boyfriend No. 2. It would seem that call-girls and mistresses would have more respect for state governors. Sanford said, "I'm sticking it out and have no intention of resigning." This implies that he is not making any effort to curb the source of his problem.

Many were surprised to see Vice President Joe Biden at the White House beer party. It was learned that President Obama invited Joe to level the playing field and to discourage any two-on-one racial jokes. The casual setting gave Sgt. James Crowley and Professor Henry Louis Gates an opportunity to seek solutions to racial problems. And it gave Obama a teaching opportunity to help Biden develop the use of tact in delicate situations. The meeting could not be called a success since the only thing changed was the equilibrium of the participants. Biden was the only one not to drink. He took his role as designated driver very seriously.

Wow! Al Franken was the presiding officer over the U.S. Senate during the Sotomayor Supreme Court confirmation. Let's hope that the Senate will not select a comedian for this honor when they are dealing with serious matters.

Robert Schultze, where are you receiving your information about how wonderful the health care is in Canada, England and France? I agree that the insurance and pharmaceutical industries need to be regulated to keep their prices affordable. We have the best health care in the world! If you want socialized medicine like above-named countries, pick a number because you will have ro wait in line.

If all else fails for you, it would only take you about a 10-hour drive to move to Canada.

Where Bradbury sleeps

As a Washington resident, I don't have a horse in this race, but I continue to be flummoxed by the attempt to remove Judge John H. Bradbury from his 2nd District seat on grounds that he sleeps more often in Lewiston than at his legal residence in Grangeville.

What a wonderful concept. Now, let's see. How many U.S. congressional representatives and senators sleep most nights at their legal residences (back in the states they represent), instead of Washington, D.C.?

As long as Bradbury maintains his legal residence in Grangeville and votes there, he is legally a resident of Grangeville.
