Uniter-in-chief?

How is a United States president who turns things over to the states a “uniter-in-chief”?

Codes enforced, please

Excellent letter from William Furstenau (Aug. 31) concerning the Lewiston City Council considering allowing shipping containers to be used for storage in residential areas.

Is the goal of our city entities to turn Lewiston into an “anything goes” community where violators are rewarded and individuals who care for their property are ignored? If I were to give a grade to the mayor and city council, it would be an F.

There doesn’t seem to be any enforcement of the city codes, except if you want to start a new business ... . Cases in point are fireworks that go uncontrolled; camper trailers, utility trailers and boats parked on streets; the proliferation of old trailers and inoperable vehicles, towed in and parked on properties in neighborhoods; uncontrolled weeds; and intersections one can’t see around because of trees or shrubs.

If code enforcement doesn’t know where all this exists, give me a call. You have city employees driving by these problem areas every day who should be able to report back to those in charge. One more thing, I know of three individuals who are experiencing rat infestations for the first time.

As do most folks, I pay a ton in property taxes, and I often wonder what I’m getting in return. If the city entities in charge don’t want to enforce the codes, or protect those who care about the community, find those who will. Allowing shipping containers in residential areas is another step in Lewiston becoming a garbage town.
