Forest officials postpone meetings pending end of difficult fire season

The three national forests that cover most of the Blue Mountains in Washington and Oregon have postponed public meetings on the Blue Mountain Forest Plan Revision until after the ongoing fire season.

Officials from the Umatilla, Wallowa-Whitman and Malheur national forests will announce meeting times and dates when they become available.

Hunting seasons for mourning doves and forest grouse open in both Idaho and Washington Tuesday.

The daily bag limit for doves in both states is 15. Idaho raised the limit and extended the season through Oct. 30 last year. Washington follows suit this fall with the same bag limits and season lengths.

Community barbecue scheduled tonight at Moscow park

MOSCOW - The Palouse Environmental Sustainability Coalition and Friends of the Clearwater will put on a community barbecue at 5 p.m. tonight in East City Park here.

The local band Yellow Dog Flats will be playing and grilled foods will be served.

Canyon Birders schedule outing

The Canyon Birders will lead a short bird watching field trip at Mann Lake near Lewiston Saturday.

Those interested can meet at the lake's boat launch parking area at 8 a.m. Binoculars and spotting scopes will be available for use.
