M1 Garand match set Saturday in Lapwai

LAPWAI - The Lewis-Clark Wildlife Club will hold a Civilian Marksmanship Program-sanctioned M1 Garand match at its range near here Saturday.

Sign-up starts at 9 a.m. and the match will run from 9:30 to about noon. Pre-registration is suggested.

The entry fee is $35 per shooter and includes 35 rounds of .30-06 ammunition. Prizes will be awarded and lunch will be available after the match.

A portion of the range will be available for use by non-match shooters, with targets out to no more than 100 yards.

Turkey hunting clinic

set later this month

WOOTEN WILDLIFE AREA - The National Wild Turkey Federation will have a youth turkey hunting clinic at the Blue Mountains KOA and Last Resort here March 23.

The clinic, which starts at 8:30 a.m. and will last until 3 p.m., will cover hunting safety, turkey calling, hunting techniques, and turkey biology. It will also feature an archery and shotgun range. Lunch will be provided and door prizes will be awarded.

Those interested in participating are asked to make a reservation by calling the Last Resort at (800) 562-3417. The resort is located at 2005 Tucannon Road, just inside the Wooten Wildlife Area, southwest of Pomeroy.

Colton Gun Club will

have fun shoot March 24

COLTON - The Palouse Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold a fun shoot and demonstration day at the Colton Gun Club here March 24.

The event starts at 1:30 p.m. and will also feature demonstrations on safe boating, retriever handling and decoy use. The shoot starts about 2 p.m.

A 25-bird round of trap will cost $2.50 for kids and $3.75 for adults. Kids will have their own shooting line and coaches. A duck calling contest for kids will follow the shooting and a pulled pork and chicken dinner will be served at 4 p.m.

Tickets are $40 for a single adult, $70 for couples, and $30 for kids younger than 17. The price includes a Ducks Unlimited membership, cap and dinner. Shooting fees will be collected by the gun club.

LeRoy Hyatt offering

fly tying class

LeRoy Hyatt of Lewiston will teach a fly tying class at the Lewiston Community Center for four consecutive Tuesdays starting April 9.

The classes are open to people 14 and older and they run from 7 to 9 p.m. The cost is $40. Each participant is required to furnish his or her own equipment and supplies.

A minimum of 10 students is needed to hold the class. The registration deadline is April 2. Those interested can register by calling the Lewiston Community Center at (208) 746-2313.

Canyon Birders plan

outing on Saturday

The Canyon Birders will lead a bird-watching trip Saturday to Waha Lake near Lewiston.

Those interested in participating can meet at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Sports Authority in Lewiston.

MOSCOW - Michael Mancuso of Boise will deliver "Only in Idaho - a Tour of Plant Species Found Nowhere Else" at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Fiske Room of the 1912 Center in Moscow.

His talk is sponsored by the White Pine Chapter of the Idaho Native Plant Society. The 1912 center is at 412 E. Third St.

DAYTON - Hit by rain and warm temperatures that have led to soft snow conditions, Ski Bluewood near here will be closed today.
