Local youth to serve LDS mission

A local youth will serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Zachary Told of Grangeville will serve in the Argentina Salta Mission. He is the son of Matthew and Katie Told of Grangeville.

He entered the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, on July 13.

Service set at Kooskia City Park

KOOSKIA - Life Center will hold its Sunday morning service at 10 a.m. at Kooskia City Park as part of the Kooskia Days Celebration.

Special music for the service will be provided by Johny Schuster. A covered-dish dinner, kids' games and a baptismal service in the river will follow.

The evening service at 5:30 p.m. will be held at the church's 4432 U.S. Highway 12 location.

Celebrated pianist to perform in Craigmont today

CRAIGMONT - Award-winning pianist John Nilsen will perform a one-hour concert at the Craigmont Community Church beginning at 7 p.m. today.

Nilsen has recorded 19 compact discs of his music and sold more than 1 million copies. He has toured in all 50 states, Europe and Asia. He will be performing original and several classical pieces. There is no admission charge for the concert, and CDs will be available for purchase.

Summer picnic planned at Spalding Park

SPALDING - Aglow Confluence of Grace will hold a summer picnic covered-dish lunch from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Spalding Park here.

Verna Johnson will be the guest speaker at the gathering, and attendees are encouraged to bring school supplies for the benefit of children at Lapwai schools.

Clarkston church sets vacation Bible school

St. John's Lutheran Church Valley Bible Academy will offer a free vacation Bible school from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday through Friday at the church, 1107 14th St., Clarkston.

The event is open to children 4 years through sixth grade and has a "Christian Olympics" theme.
