The 2009 Soccer America preseason poll has the Washington State women's soccer team ranked No. 22 nationally.

The Cougars were also ranked No. 21 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America preseason poll.

The Cougars, who finished No. 21 at the end of last season, will kick off their season at 3 p.m. Friday when they play host to Idaho.

Tatham, Whidbee notch wins

RENTON, Wash. - Moscow's Nikki Tatham and Pullman's Paige Whidbee advanced to the final day of the Pacific Northwest Golf Association's junior girls' tournament on Wednesday.

Tatham, who defeated Maple Valley's Amanda Fairweather 1 up, will play for the championship of the fourth flight consolation bracket today.

Whidbee, who defeated Everett's Paige Robinett 2 and 2, will play for the championship of the sixth flight consolation bracket.

Also on Wednesday, Lewiston's Amy Hasenoehrl fell to Sammamish's Emilie Schwartz by default.

Four Cougs in Canada Games

PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, Canada - Four Washington State women's crew members will row at the Canada Games on the Southwest River, beginning today and running through Friday.

The event will be held here at the Southwest River.

Sophomores Sarah Powell and Katie Dick, as well as transfer Lisa Roman, will compete for British Columbia. Transfer Jessica Start will row for Saskatchewan.
