It was a night of broken streaks.

The southeastern Washington all-stars couldn't overcome the superlative 3-point shooting of Moscow's Dane Randall. Randall finished with 19 points and the north central Idaho all-stars won their first ever meeting in the boys' matchup during the third annual Battle of the Border all-star basketball game at Clarkston High on Wednesday.

The north central Idaho boys won 85-78, and the girls from southeastern Washington won their first contest in the nascent rivalry when Tekoa-Oakesdale's Alex Overton did a little bit of everything to propel the Washington team to a 70-57 win over the Idaho club, which had won the last two meetings.

Colfax's Brandon Gfeller finished with 26 points in the boys' all-star game, and leapt to glory in the slam dunk contest. He slammed home an alley-oop off the backboard on a feed from Bulldogs teammate Brady Ellis to highlight the competition.

That wasn't Ellis' only appearance of the night; he also won the boys' 3-point shooting contest. The winner of the girls' contest was also from the Palouse, Pullman's Cierra Paul.

But the real 3-point contest might have been on the court during the boys' all-star game, where Gfeller and Randall traded shots. The north central Idaho all-stars built a lead in the boys' game, and whenever the Washington club attempted a rally, Randall was there with an answer.
