NEW ORLEANS - Idaho running back Aaron Duckworth, defensive end Aikeem Coleman and linebacker Tony Lashley were first-team picks on the All-Sun Belt football team, which was released Wednesday.
This marked the first time since 2008 that the Vandals had three first-team all-league players.
A total of 10 Idaho players were recognized, with linebacker Kaden Elliss, offensive linemen Noah Johnson and punter Cade Coffey earning second-team distinction, along with honorable mentions defensive tackle Arie Anderson, linebacker Ed Hall, linebacker Leonard Hazewood and wide receiver Alfonso Onunwor.
Duckworth led the Sun Belt with 1,025 rushing yards, the only player in the conference to eclipse 1,000 yards on the ground. He is the first Vandal to lead a league in rushing yards since Joel Thomas in 1996.
Coleman recorded a team-high seven sacks and ranked second on the squad with 14 tackles for loss. Both marks ranked in the top five of the conference.
Lashley racked up 123 tackles on the season, the most by a Vandal since 2007, ranking second in the Sun Belt. His 6.5 solo stops per game are the top mark in the league and No. 5 nationally.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Gonzaga 64, WSU 56
PULLMAN - The Washington State women's basketball team shot 28 percent from the field and couldn't keep pace with Gonzaga in a nonleague game at Beasley Coliseum.
The Cougars (5-5) made just 21 of 75 attempts on the evening, and were even colder in the fourth quarter, when they hit 4 of 20 and were outscored 21-13.
Gonzaga (5-3) went 21-for-46 from the field, which included a 6-for-9 showing from 3-point range.
It was an even game through three quarters, but the Coug offense went missing late in the fourth as the Zags used a 10-5 run to turn a three-point game into an eight-point advantage in the final four minutes of the game.
Throughout the final minutes of the game, WSU had its chances to push its way back into the game only to see its shot clang off.
The teams were called for 48 combined fouls and the Cougs' leading scorer, Borislava Hristova, played the entire game in foul trouble after picking up two infractions in the first 1:35 of the game.
Despite the trouble, Hristova led the Cougs with 13 points, seven coming in the third quarter, to go with a season-high eight rebounds.
The Zags' Jill Barta scored 15 points in 13 minutes of action before leaving with an injury. In her stead, Zykera Rice took over and notched 19 points.
The Cougars grabbed 28 offensive rebounds but finished with just 11 second-chance points.
