Warriors’ Bothwell in ninth at multi championships

LA GRANDE, Ore. — Lewis-Clark State’s Christian Bothwell stood at ninth place in the decathlon after the first five events of the Cascade Conference multi-event championship.

Bothwell has missed most of the outdoor season due to injury. In his return, he placed sixth in the shot put, eighth in the 100-meter dash and long jump, and ninth in the high jump. Bothwell had a distance of 36 feet, 8 ½ inches in the shot put.

“Injuries are tough, especially when you are used to training and competing at such a high level,” Warriors coach Mike Collins said in a news release. “Christian has learned this over the past couple of months after incurring an injury in our last indoor meet. He decided to forego competing at indoor Nationals in the hopes that he could come back and compete outdoors and hopefully repeat as an All-American. However, just not enough time to do it.”

Bothwell will finish competition in the decathlon today. The events will be the 110 hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500.
