PULLMAN — The Pullman Greyhounds clinched the 2A Greater Spokane League boys regular-season soccer title with an 8-1 win over West Valley of Spokane Valley at Pullman High School on Tuesday.

It was the second straight game where senior Clarens Dollin had a goal and four assists for Pullman (11-1-2, 8-0).

The Greyhounds got a couple of “phenomenal headers” from Leon Lange in the second half, according to coach Doug Winchell.

Evan French notched a game-high three goals and added two assists for Pullman, while keeper Aaron Oatley saved five of six goal attempts to come his way.

RATHDRUM, Idaho — Lewiston’s Guy Krasselt notched five hits in a nonleague doubleheader sweep against Lakeland of Rathdrum.

The Bengals scored three runs in the top of the ninth to secure an extra-innings victory over the Hawks in Game 1.

Keatan Phillips and Krasselt each notched three hits in the first game.

The Bengals (11-7) handled the Hawks (7-11) in the nightcap and scored five runs between the fourth and fifth innings.

Krasselt, Cody Ray and Grady Kennedy had two hits apiece for Lewiston in Game 2.

PULLMAN — Caleb Snider rallied in the No. 4 singles match to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat for Pullman against visiting Clarkston in a team dual clash of 2A Greater Spokane League unbeatens, putting the Greyhounds in sole possession of first place.

The Hounds, who have never lost a 2A GSL dual since the league was founded at the start of this decade, were on the brink of doing so as Snider trailed 6-1, 3-0 to the Bantams’ Chase Meyer in the last match of the day with the overall event tally tied at three matches apiece. The Greyhound senior changed tactics from net-rushing to battling from the baseline and successfully ground out a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 win.

Clarkston (7-2, 4-1) enjoyed hard-fought victories in the top two singles matches from brothers Alex and Cody Whittle, including a back-and-forth 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 slugfest for Alex Whittle over Pullman’s Benjamin Lee at No. 1. Snider’s was the third rally from a set down on the day for Pullman (8-2, 5-0), which got its lone straight-sets victory from the No. 1 doubles duo of Aditya Bose-Bandyopadhyay and Mir Park.

Host Clarkston took all three doubles matches en route to a team victory over Pullman in a meeting of the last two undefeated teams in the 2A Greater Spokane League.

Olivia Gustafson and Ella Leavitt spearheaded the doubles sweep with a 6-4, 6-3 showing against Pullman’s Lynnsey Biorn and Daun Park, while the pairing of Eloise Teasley and Kayla Frei produced the most dominant performance of the day for the Bantams (8-1, 5-0) with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout. Coach Margie Denton said she was “super proud of the girls” for the win, which gave them standalone first-place status in league standings.

The visiting Greyhounds (9-1, 4-1), playing without team captain Naomi Carter among others due to schedule conflicts, benefited from handy straight-sets victories by their top two singles players for the day, Diana Gutierrez and Johanna Meuller. It was the Pullman girls’ first-ever 2A GSL defeat and their first team dual loss in-or-out of league in over two years.

COTTONWOOD — Prairie of Cottonwood won team titles on the boys and girls side of its home track meet at Prairie High School.

The Pirates’ boys team swept the relay events. Prairie’s 400 relay team of Dylan Uhlenkott, Noah Geis, Ben Secrest and Trenton Lorentz topped the podium with a time of 44.69 seconds.

On the girls side, Prairie’s Kennedy Reiener placed first in the 100 (13.27) and the 200 (28.39).

COLFAX — The Asotin boys and Garfield-Palouse girls earned team trophies in a Northeast 2B League meet at Colfax High School.

Christan Walling topped the podium in the high jump (5 feet, 8 inches) and triple jump (39-0.25) to head up the victory for the Panther boys, and teammate Elias Lopez placed first in the shot put with a throw of 38-1.5.

Kyra Brantner was first in the long jump (16-7) and triple jump (34-2.5) for the Viking girls.

PULLMAN — Kyle Russell and Cole Cramer scored a run apiece in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn’t enough as the Cougars fell to the Bulldogs in a nonconference game.

Washington State (18-21) and Gonzaga (17-20) were tied at 2-2 until the ninth inning. The Bulldogs put up four runs in the top of the ninth to take the lead. The Cougars were able to cut their deficit in half in the bottom half of the frame but couldn’t make up the difference.

Cramer led Washington State with two hits, including a double.

Idaho four strikes behind through first round of Big Sky championship

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. — The Vandals’ Joe Sykes tied for second through the first round of the Big Sky championship at Wigwam Golf Course.

Sykes wrapped up Day 1 with a 3-under 69 and teammate Samuel Johnson was tied for fourth with a 2-under 70.

Idaho was second in the four-team field with a 3-under total of 285, four strokes behind first-place Sacramento State.

The Big Sky championship continues today.

WSU finishes 10th in the Pac-12 championship

PULLMAN — Madelyn Gamble finished the Pac-12 championship at Palouse Ridge Golf Course as the highest-placing Cougar, tying for 26th with a 2-over 218.

Washington State placed 10th in the 11-team field, a four-spot drop from where it was on Monday.

The Cougars finished the Pac-12 championship with a 22-over team total of 886. Stanford won the conference tournament with a 28-under 836.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

WSU schedules home-and-home with Virginia

PULLMAN — Washington State announced Tuesday it has added a two-game, home-and-home series against Virginia to its 2025 and 2031 football schedules.

The Cougars will face the Cavaliers in on Sept. 27, 2025, in Charlottesville, Va., in the first meeting. Virginia will play at Gesa Field six years later.

The 2025 game will be the first time WSU has played Virginia and the 2031 game will mark the first time the Cougs will host an ACC opponent at Gesa Field.
