MOSCOW - Deremy Geiger collected 19 points, five assists and three steals Monday night to guide Idaho to a 77-61 win over Concordia in a men's basketball game at Memorial Gym.
Stephen Madison added 15 points for the Vandals (1-1), while Kyle Barone had 11 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks.
"I thought we battled hard," Idaho coach Don Verlin said. "All in all, I thought it was a lot of good work after a tough, hard-fought loss a Long Beach State (on Saturday). To come back and play two days later on some tired legs, I thought our guys competed very hard."
Geiger's line included no turnovers.
Despite building a 22-point lead by the midway point of the second half, Idaho couldn't quite put the Cavaliers away. The NAIA team from Portland, Ore., pulled to within 11 points with 7:02 left.
A steal by junior Mansa Habeeb and a Madison fast-break layup, followed by a Geiger bucket, put Idaho back ahead by 17.
Kevan West of Concordia (1-1) led all scorers with 29 points on 11-of-18 shooting.
"You've got to give credit to Concordia; they're a scrappy little bunch," Verlin said. "Kevan West, what a game he had. We just couldn't guard him. He scored inside, outside, at the free0throw line, any which way he wanted to."

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
North Dakota 84, Idaho 54
GRAND FORKS, N.D.- The Idaho women's basketball team hit the road for the first time this season and decisively came out on the losing end of a nonleague game against North Dakota.
The Vandals (1-1) failed to take care of the basketball and gave up too many offensive rebounds, a devastating combination as the Fighting Sioux outscored Idaho a combined 48-13 in second-chance points and points off turnovers. On top of all that, the Vandals hit just 3-of-18 from long range.
Idaho senior Ganeaya Rogers and freshman Stacey Barr scored in double figures for the second straight game, as Rogers finished with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting, with her lone miss coming from long range. Barr scored 10 points but needed 12 shots to get them.
Ashley Walters made her first career start and finished with four points and two rebounds at post.
Madi Buck led the way for North Dakota, finishing with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

VOLLEYBALL
Walker is Player of Week again
For the third week in a row, an Idaho volleyball player is the Western Athletic Conference's Player of the Week in volleyball. And for the third time this season, it's sophomore outside hitter Allison Walker.
Walker averaged 4.62 kills per set as Idaho extended its win streak to five matches, clinched second place in the WAC and sewed up a No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in next week's conference tournament.
The Vandals are 10-2 since Oct. 1.
Last week, Idaho senior outside hitter Alicia Milo earned her first career WAC Player of the Week honor.
Parnell earns conference award
Portland, Ore. - Lewiston native Joey Parnell of Oregon Tech was named to the All-Cascade Collegiate Conference in volleyball after ranking second in the league in kills and first in aces.
Parnell was one of 14 players named to the all-conference team.
SWIMMING
Cougars get two commitments
PULLMAN - Loree Olson and Presley Wetterstrom have signed letters of intent to compete in women's swimming at Washington State, Cougars coach Tom Jager announced.
Olson and Wetterstrom both swim for a team based in Roseville, Calif., the California Capital Aquatics.
"This is a great start to our first recruiting class because we got two quality kids out of a quality program in California, the California Capital," Jager said.
