LAPWAI - In their brand new gymnasium, the Lapwai Wildcats were thwarted 51-44 by the Kamiah Kubs in a nonleague girls' basketball game Thursday night.
"It was a good game for us," Kubs coach Tina Ulmer said of their season debut. "(Lapwai shows) you every weakness you have."
Kyndahl Ulmer collected 20 points and 13 boards for the Kubs and Matea Harper had five steals, five assists and four points to boot.
But Lapwai didn't go down easily. Both teams were short on players and Lapwai's Natahnee Spencer made sure the Kubs would get in foul trouble, finishing with 33 points.
"Spencer did whatever she wanted to do," Tina Ulmer said. "They're young; Lapwai's a good team."
