Wildcats to meet with Inslee
OLYMPIA - Besides earning them a place in Washington prep history, Colton's fifth consecutive girls' basketball championship has earned the Wildcats an audience with Governor Jay Inslee.
Colton and the other 11 prep teams that won Washington state basketball titles will be honored today at the state legislature, and then have a luncheon with Inslee.
"We're really excited," Colton coach Clark Vining said. "It's a great opportunity. It's the kind of opportunity that comes around once in a lifetime."
The Wildcats' seniors are on a different trip and weren't able to attend. Vining, assistant coach Ben Emerson and players Jenna Moser, Zoe Moser and Savannah Chadwick made the drive to Olympia on Thursday.
According to the WIAA, the other teams expected to attend are Toledo (1A boys), Rainier Beach (3A boys), Curtis (4A boys), Brewster (1A girls), Cleveland (3A girls) and Mead (4A girls). The Pullman boys, who won the 2A title, will apparently not attend.
