KENNEWICK - The Colfax Bulldogs made sure they had the last possession of any consequence.

Levi Hardy scored from the 1-yard line in the waning moments as the unbeaten Bulldogs, powered by dual-threat quarterback Justin Berarducci, edged White Swan 42-37 on Friday night in the quarterfinals of the Washington 2B state football playoffs.

White Swan (8-4) took the lead with four minutes left on a pass from Joseph Kosik to Nathan Nobbs. But the Bulldogs (11-0) responded with a game-winning 80-yard drive.

"Our kids just continue to amaze me," Colfax coach Mike Morgan said. "They just don't get shaken up. They were calm in the huddle and just went back to work. They just believed they were going to do it, and they got 'er done."

White Swan's double-pass Hail Mary was unsuccessful on the game's final play.

The Bulldogs advance to the quarterfinals next week at Pasco against the winner today between Waitsburg-Prescott and Lind-Ritzville/Sprague.

"I think we have to play five teams, somehow," Morgan cracked.

Berarducci passed 13-for-18 for 166 yards and also rushed for 91 yards. On a third-down play late in the decisive drive, Beraducci wriggled from what seemed a sure tackle and pitched to Jaime Bledsoe, who bulled for about 15 yards to the 6-yard line and a first down.

Given the back-and-forth nature of the game, Morgan said, "We tried to take as much time as possible off the clock on the last drive. We really felt whoever had the ball last was going to win the game."

Alvin Li rushed for 131 yards for the Bulldogs, Bledsoe for 70. For White Swan, Alex Sampson ran for 133.

The Bulldogs are in the state semifinals for the fourth straight year.

NEZPERCE - Ben Snodgrass coached his Troy Trojans to victory over his father's Nezperce Indians in a nonleague girls' basketball game.

"We came to work in the first half," the younger Snodgrass said. "We just came out with a lot of energy in the first half."

Troy led 27-12 after the first half, with the Trojans' zone defense preventing a lot of the Indians' shots, Snodgrass said. In the second half, Nezperce switched to a 1-3-1 defense, which seemed to tighten up the play a bit.

For Troy (2-0), Danica Case pulled in 10 rebounds and Madisen Yockey nabbed six steals.

"It's a lot of fun," Snodgrass said about playing his dad's team. "I know the (Nezperce) kids, the kids know me. ... As long as both teams play well, we're happy.

"They're real young, but they're going to be good by the end of the season, they're real athletic," Snodgrass said of Nezperce.
