DEARY - Playing simple man-to-man defense, Potlatch's Chris Judson held Deary's star 10 points below his scoring average, helping key the Loggers' 61-31 win in a nonleague prep boys' basketball game Thursday night.
In addition to holding Deary's Jalen Kirk to six points, Judson also scored 16 points - on 5-of-7 shooting - to help the Loggers remain perfect in a matchup of unbeaten teams.
The Loggers (3-0), for the second straight game, held themselves under 10 turnovers (they had 17 assists to nine turnovers on Thursday), and held the hosts to single digits scoring in all but one quarter to run away with the win.
"I was really pleased with the kids' defensive effort tonight," Potlatch coach Ryan Ball said.

GENESEE - Emerson Parkins registered 11 points, six steals, five assists and four rebounds as Genesee clubbed rival Troy in a Whitepine League Division I game.
Genesee freshman Bailey Leseman, who had played three quarters in the JV game, rang up 10 points and three steals in two quarters of varsity action as the Bulldogs recovered from a loss to Colton.
"Fun game, watching our kids bounce back," Genesee coach Brandon McIntosh said. "They came out, didn't overthink anything, worked together."
Courtney Burt furnished eight points, six assists and four steals for the Bulldogs, who also got 10 points, four steals and three assists from Anna Druffel and five rebounds and three steals from Regan Zenner.
Katy Doumit scored 12 points for Troy in a performance that impressed McIntosh.

Kourtne Carpenter tallied five assists and five steals as the Indians (5-1, 3-0) stayed unbeaten in league play and handed the Patriots their first overall loss.
Nezperce coach Dave Snodgrass liked his team's shooting accuracy, which was aided by steals and breakaways. Eight of the Indians' 22 field goals were layins.

Now 7-0 overall and 4-0 in league, Prairie was led by Angela Wemhoff's 21 points, nine steals, five assists and five rebounds. Also, Jordyn Higgins and India Peery added 14 points apiece and Josie Peery had six steals.
"I think our defensive pressure was probably the key," Prairie coach Lori Mader said.
