BOISE - While many area teams were getting rained out, Lewiston's baseball club was enjoying sunny skies at Roger Wolf Field as it split a nonleague doubleheader against Centennial High on Friday.

Lewiston won the first game 8-0 and turned around for an 11-2 loss. It was the first loss of the season as the team moves to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in league.

"We had an error or two and the floodgates kind of opened," Lewiston coach Tom Grunenfelder said of the third inning in the second game. In that third inning, the Bengals allowed nine runs. "Next thing you know, they're up 10-nothing."

To Grunenfelder's relief, Zach Tibbits and Kyler Brooks hit solo homeruns in the fourth and fifth innings, preventing any chance of getting 10-runned.

In the first game, junior Dan Hasenoehrl threw six solid innings to help Lewiston earn a shutout over Centennial.

"Everytime we needed a big pitch of (Hasenoehrl) we got it," Grunenfelder said. "We jumped off the bus early."

In that game, Jake Ralstin hit a two-run double to open things up in the first inning.

Lewiston finishes its road-trip to southern Idaho with a visit at Rocky Mountain High today. That doubleheader kicks off at 9 a.m. PDT.

NEW PLYMOUTH - Though the Pirates had barely seen light of day this year, Prairie split a doubleheader with New Plymouth in nonleague play on Friday.

"We haven't had one outside practice yet," Prairie coach Jeff Martin said. "It's nice to get in the sun."

Temperatures were in the lower 70s so the game originally slated as a single bout was extended to two games.

In the opener, the Cottonwood team had a few too many slip ups to make up in a 7-5 loss. Despite that, eight out of nine batters registered a hit.

The bats stayed hot in the second game when junior Tanna Schlader hit a two-run home run in the first inning. The Pirates were able to claim the win despite the hot hand of Megan Forsberg, who limited Prairie to one run while on the mound.

Prairie is now 4-2 overall and plays a doubleheader at Centennial High in Boise today.

Pullman-Clarkston delayed

The Pullman-Clarkston baseball game was once again delayed Friday because of weather conditions, and has been rescheduled for Monday.

Both the varsity and JV game will be at Clarkston at 4 p.m. Monday.

Also, Clarkston's baseball and softball games today with Cheney will be played at Clarkston, and are now single games rather than doubleheaders. Both will start at 1:30 p.m.

The Bantams made only one mistake and it cost them dearly.

Pullman's Carson Schneider was left unmarked inside the 18-yard box and connected with a header in the 65th minute to break a scoreless deadlock - giving the Hounds a Great Northern League win over Clarkston on Friday.

"It was the only mistake we made all game," Clarkston coach Ryan Newhouse said. "It was a good game. It back-and-forth the whole match."

The loss drops the Bantams to 1-2 in league and 2-3 overall. Clarkston takes to the pitch again on Tuesday with a GNL match at Deer Park.
