EVERETT, Wash. -- A first-inning tally by the Spokane Heat turned out to be the difference, as the Pullman Patriots endured a 1-0 setback in the title game of the Bill Taylor American Legion baseball invitational on Monday.

Pullman pitcher Jameson Maj was the hard-luck loser,

throwing a complete-game five-hitter.

But in the first inning, Chase Earling singled, then stole second. Travis Webbs then hit a fly that was misplayed in the outfield, allowing Earling to score.

Pat Cummins led Pullman with two singles while Kyle Hinrichs had a double.

Spokane's Travis Hill and Owen Williams combined on a four-hitter.
