POMEROY - Even with their two big men sidelined by injuries, the Pomeroy Pirates had little trouble with Dayton in their nonleague boys' basketball season opener Tuesday night. The score was 57-34.

The Pirates' Cody LaMunyan and Riley Bott, who both stand 6-foot-6 and started every game last season, were out with injuries.

Helping pick up the slack were two freshmen, Kade Gingerich and Cort LaMunyan. Gingerich led in scoring with 15 points while Max Ruchert added 12 and Cole Mayfield 10.

Pomeroy will play at Asotin on Friday in the Battle of the Colors.
