ASOTIN - The Asotin Panthers turned to a youthful source to continue their strong start to the season.

Freshman starting pitcher Nate Scheibe came up big for the Panthers by posting three-plus innings of one-run baseball to help propel Asotin to a 8-3 nonleague victory over Orofino on Tuesday.

Scheibe allowed just one run on two hits while striking out two and walking two.

"It's really outstanding to have a young guy pitch like that against a team like Orofino," Panthers coach Jim Holman said.

Dusty Lyons had two hits, including a double, and collected three RBI for Asotin. Grant Parsons added a two-run double to help Asotin stretch it's overall record to 8-1.

Colton 8, TOR 2

COLTON - Junior pitcher Holdan Druffel picked up his second complete-game win of the season, as he kept Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia off-balance in a nonleague contest.

Druffel limited TOR to seven hits while striking out two and walking one. The submarine-style pitcher induced nine groundball outs; the defense went errorless behind him.

"There's a pretty decent sense of trust built up between him and his defenders," Wildcats coach Pat Doumit said. "They know they're going to get a lot of groundballs behind him, and he knows they're going to handle them."

Colton (2-5) led 3-0 when TOR mustered two runs in the top of the sixth. The Wildcats responded in the bottom of the frame with five runs, all of which came with two outs.

Andrew Tietjen drove in the first two runs of that rally with a double to the wall in left-center. Bricyn Abdul followed with a run-scoring double.

VanLith tallied eight Ks while SJE had 11 hits on offense, taking advantage of the Vikings' six errors.

Garret Pfaff had the lone hit for Garfield-Palouse (2-3).

But seven errors were too costly for the Vikings, who were held to just one hit in the contest.
