WEIPPE - Jake Farmer drained a 3-pointer from the wing with 11 seconds left to boost the Clearwater Valley boys' basketball team to a dramatic 36-35 nonleague win over Timberline of Pierce/Weippe on Thursday evening.
The Spartans had gone up by two on Jadan Dahl's 3-pointer. The Rams then looked to Farmer, who missed a 3-point heave from the corner.
But the rebound was knocked back out to the perimeter, and Farmer, given a second chance, drained a lead-taking triple.
Farmer and Dillon Fisher scored 14 points apiece for CV. Farmer also grabbed eight rebounds.
It was a sloppy game, with both teams landing in first-half foul trouble, Rams coach Adam Uptmor said.
"It's nice to get in the win column," Uptmor said. "It's been ugly for us the first two games. Hopefully this (win) will get us on the right path."

Timberlake 45, Moscow 36
MOSCOW - Timberlake's Jessica Norlander tallied 12 points and 13 rebounds to lead the White Tigers to a nonleague victory over winless Moscow at Bear Den.
"We knew it would be a challenge, but we have to do a better job of blocking out and denying the ball because we are a little shorter than teams like the one we faced tonight," said Bears coach Robin Barnes, whose team is 0-8. "It hurts not having (the injured Chloe Quinnett) out there and that's unfortunate, but I still think we can do a better job of blocking out and fighting for those rebounds."
After a slow start, Moscow established a narrow lead and seemed to be headed to its first win of the year, but a disastrous third quarter in which the Bears were outscored 17-7 proved to be the difference.
Junior guard Joelle Stephens led Moscow with eight points, four rebounds, a steal and an assist. Senior post Kim Sprenger also played passionately in the loss, recording seven points, five rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists.
Quinnett practiced this week after recovering from a foot injury, but fell awkwardly on her wrist Wednesday and broke it.
"She was just back for limited stuff, but she fell backwards in practice and it looks like she broke her radius, but for sure her wrist is broken," Barnes said. "In two weeks she'll get it re-X-rayed and they might need to do surgery or she might be back in a month if it heals itself."

MCCALL - Grangeville barged to a 10-point lead in the first quarter and maintained that edge the rest of the way, as the Bulldogs beat nonleague opponent McCall-Donnelly for the second time this season.
Grangeville pried a number of turnovers from the Vandals, but had trouble turning them into points consistently, coach Larson Anderson said.
Hailey Sullivan scored 18 points for the Bulldogs while Chantel Key added 14.

Prairie 59, CV 27
KOOSKIA - Kyndahl Ulmer pumped in a 20-point, 15-rebound double-double to lead Prairie of Cottonwood to a Whitepine League Division I win over Clearwater Valley.
"We put good pressure on them," Prairie coach Lori Mader said. "We defended well and moved well. It was good. We caused 25 turnovers."
That pressure allowed the Pirates to dominate the run of play with a slew of transition buckets that ultimately led to the team's first league win of the season.
Leah Holthaus added 10 points and Kayla Schumacher notched seven steals, six points and five assists.
"League or nonleague, we want our kids to win every night. Our kids are so competitive, we want to win every night," Mader said. "The first (league win) is good and it tastes good, don't get me wrong, but we want to come out on top no matter who we face."

POTLATCH - A balanced effort by the Loggers led to a Whitepine League Division I win over Troy.
Leading by only four points after the first eight minutes, Potlatch turned up the defensive intensity and pulled away in the middle two quarters.
"They just played well as a team," Potlatch coach Deborah Strong said. "They worked hard on defense and things went smooth for them. They worked well as a team to get the win."
As a team, the Loggers tallied 13 steals.
Offensively, Danicka Musick paced the Loggers with 19 points. She also had nine rebounds and five steals.
Ashli Woodin chipped in with 14 points for Potlatch and Haley Bowles added 10.

Kendrick 38, Summit 28
KENDRICK - Abby Smith nearly notched a triple double and Kendrick clamped down on Summit to hand the Patriots their first loss of the season in both teams' Whitepine League Division II opener.
Summit dropped to 5-1 overall while Kendrick improved to 3-2 behind Smith's 17 points, 10 boards and seven assists. While she fell just three assists short of the elusive hat-trick, Smith recorded three steals and Kendrick coach Ron Ireland credited his team's defense for the win, holding the Patriots below 30 points.
Curiously, the Tigers actually shot better from beyond the arc (35 percent) than they did from the field (23 percent) against the Patriots' stout zone, which aimed to slow the pace of the Tigers' fast-break offense.
"It's still early in the season," Ireland said, "but it'll come. Everyone's working hard."
