In the No. 1-level matches, Pullman benefited from comfortable straight-sets wins by girls singles player Diana Gutierrez (6-1, 6-0), boys singles player Benjamin Lee (6-2, 6-1) and the boys doubles pairing of Aditya Bose Bandyopadhyay/Mir Park (6-3, 6-0), while Lewiston enjoyed a thrilling 7-6 (0), 2-6, 10-6 girls doubles triumph courtesy of twins Lynsie and Olivia Bren as well as a 6-2, 6-2 showing from mixed doubles duo Addison Falkenstein-Barker and Clayton Lee.

Hounds surmount Southridge

Pullman finished its run in the Lewiston quad-match event with a hard-fought team victory against Southridge of Kennewick, Wash.

Playing this round with separate team scoring as they faced a fellow Washington program, the Class 2A Greyhounds prevailed 4-3 against their Class 3A foes on both the boys and girls sides.

In the boys event, Pullman (7-2) split sets with Southridge and went to deciding super-tiebreaks in a whopping 5-of-7 matches contested, with the Hounds prevailing in three. The Hounds’ top doubles pairing of Aditya Bose-Bandyopadhyay and Mir Park came out strong and recovered their aggressive form in the breaker for a 6-1, 4-6, 10-2 win. Particularly dramatic was No. 3 singles player Nathan Sutton’s hustle-driven rally from the brink of defeat at a set down and trailing in the second to prevail 4-6, 7-5, 10-6.

The girls event also featured closely contested matches — none more so than a No. 3 singles epic in which Johanna Mueller’s consistency helped grind out a key 6-4, 5-7, 10-5 victory. The top doubles pairing of Lynnsey Biorn and Jasmine Thapa stepped up for a 6-3, 6-0 result for Pullman (9-0).

The No. 1 contest was steadily tight to produce a 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 final scoreline, while the No. 2 saw a topsy-turvy 6-0, 0-6, 10-8 result, both going the Bengals’ way and tilting the overall event in their favor.

Meanwhile, Addison Falkenstein-Barker and Eliza Pfaff stepped up to the plate in the girls No. 1 doubles spot to register a 6-3, 7-5 result for Lewiston, which went 2-0-1 under Idaho-rules team scoring on the weekend.
