MOSCOW - The shorthanded Moscow boys' soccer team got a goal from Ian Engerbretson midway through the second half that proved to be the difference in a season-opening win over Bonners Ferry on Saturday afternoon.
Moscow triumphed 2-1 in a nonleague contest at Bear Field.
The Bears were without five players who haven't practiced enough to gain eligibility. Coach Abilio Monteiro said his club "played about 60 percent of what we can play."
The winning goal was set up by Ryan Frenzel, who drew out Bonners Ferry's goalie and chested the ball to Engerbretson. He then maneuvered by defenders and shot at an empty net.
Moscow will play a nonleague match at Orofino on Thursday evening.
