AUGUST 7, 1999 - Wade Boggs became the first player to homer for his 3,000th hit, connecting in rare style with a two-run shot for Tampa Bay in a 15-10 loss to Cleveland. Boggs' blast in the sixth inning came off pitcher Chris Haney.
