LAPWAI -- Concerns over smoky conditions Friday prompted the Lapwai and Wallace football teams to call off their season-opening game, which was scheduled for 7 p.m. at Lapwai.

Wildcats coach William Big Man said the teams are hoping to schedule a makeup game but hadn't yet set a date. As it stands, Lapwai has a bye next week and isn't scheduled to play until Sept. 11 at Kamiah.
