A man died early this morning on a road outside Genesee after going to get help following a traffic accident.

The Latah County sheriff’s office said Lee F. Roberts, 34, was driving a 1990 Mazda north on Miller Road at about midnight when it slid off the roadway and got stuck. He left the vehicle on foot to get help at about 2:30 a.m., leaving behind a woman who was also in the vehicle.

The woman, identified by the sheriff’s office as Dawn A.M. Moore, 30, went out to search for Roberts at about 6:30 a.m. and found him about a half-mile from the vehicle facedown near the intersection of Lenville Road and Genesee-Juliaetta Road.

Roberts was pronounced dead at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow later in the morning, presumably of hypothermia, according to the sheriff’s office. Moore was also taken to the hospital by ambulance, where she was treated and released.
