The Bureau of Land Management has closed the Lower Salmon River to all recreational activity between the mouth of French Creek to the confluence with the Little Salmon River near Riggins because of the advancing Tepee Springs Fire.
The fire is about two miles from the river in the Partridge Creek drainage.
The Salmon River Road is also closed. That leaves French Creek Road, which connects with the river via McCall, as the only way for rafters coming off the main Salmon River to exit the river corridor. Rafters on that trip, which starts at Corn Creek on the other side of the French Church-River of No Return Wilderness, take out at Vinegar Creek and normally drive down river to Riggins before heading to their homes.
